Tideborn Tactics

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

Tideborn Tactics drops you onto small hex maps where the terrain literally shifts as water rises each turn. It forces you to plan movement several turns ahead, and I loved how a safe position could suddenly become a trap.

Each mission is bite-sized, so you can play one round while waiting for coffee. There's a light campaign layer where you unlock new unit types, but the real appeal is the puzzle-like tension of each individual map.

It's not the prettiest game on this list, but the mechanics are tight and it runs offline without any fuss. Good for people who like thinking games in short bursts.
